CARMEL -

Carmel Clay Superintendent Jeff Swensson will be stepping down from his position at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

Swensson notified the Carmel Clay Board of Education about his decision on Monday at the board's monthly meeting.

Swensson said it was time to "pass the leadership baton" and thanked students, parents and community partners for his professional growth in the Carmel Clay Schools.

Board President Layla Spanenberg said she was thankful for Swensson's contributions to the district.

"The Board is grateful for the positive leadership (Swensson) has provided this community as the superintendent of Carmel Clay Schools.  We wish him the very best in his future endeavors," Spanenberg said.

Swensson said he's looking forward to his future and said he remains dedicated to focusing on quality outcomes in Carmel Clay Schools.
