CARMEL, Ind. – Five vehicles were broken into and several items were stolen Saturday afternoon in Carmel.

Between 1:15-1:30 p.m., Carmel police responded to four separate reports of vehicle break-ins occurring in a shopping mall parking lot.

Many of the victims parked near the Dick’s Sporting Goods at Clay Terrace.

Indianapolis and Fishers police are already investigating more than 90 vehicle break-ins occurring within the past week.

Now, others are being cautious about leaving items in their vehicles.

"People leave a lot of, I mean I walk around and I see people leave their purse. And I remember just walking by because I park far away usually and when I walk I pass by all the cars and you look inside and say ‘I cannot believe it, they left a purse on the front seat or bags with shopping things,’” said Fabiola Clayton.

Police say to always lock your doors and keep windows rolled up in addition to removing items that could look valuable to thieves.
