Carmel school evacuated during water fountain fire

CARMEL, Ind. - A Carmel elementary school was evacuated Friday after a fire ignited inside a drinking fountain.

Carmel fire crews were dispatched to West Clay Elementary School about 1:30 p.m.

A fire extinguisher from inside the school was used to put the fire out, and the school was evacuated as part of normal fire procedures, a Carmel official said.

The health department has been called to make sure no food was contaminated during the fire, which happened near the school's cafeteria.

No injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to the one water fountain.
