NEW CASTLE, Ind. -- A sophomore at Center Grove High School wants more than anything to be the top competitor in her sport. But around every corner, there's a new stereotype to ignore and stigma to conquer.

At 16 years old, Amy Hollowell just finished driver's education.

"The speed limit is going to be my problem," she said.

Last year, Hollowell was an undefeated champion for the World Karting Association National Road Race Series.

Her dad said the boys just stopped showing up, not wanting to compete against the "Chinese Dragon."

"My helmet has a dragon on top of it and my ethnicity -- being from China -- it's kind of suited for it," Amy said. She was adopted from China at 15 months old.

Hollowell has played for the school basketball team and thrown shotput for the track team. Her goal is to drive a Formula One racecar, and maybe even an IndyCar.

"Girls shouldn't have to be limited to what they're doing just because a guy or somebody says they can't or they're too small," she said.

Hollowell also has a message for other young women with a passion for something considered untraditional:

"Go for it!" she said. "If it's something you love, why not?"
