INDIANAPOLIS -- An 11-year-old boy from West Lafayette will compete Thursday night in the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals in Washington, D.C.
Jashun Paluru is a sixth grader at Battle Ground Middle School.
Jashun, also known as Speller 74, spelled paralimnion correctly to become one of ten finalists.
According to Merriam-Webster, paralimnion is the littoral portion of a lake extending from the margin to the deepest limit of rooted vegetation.

Larisa Tuttle won the Marion County Regional Spelling Bee held at IUPUI on March 6.
Larisa misspelled the word gaillardia, which, according to Merriam-Webster, is any genus of American composite herbs with showy flower heads - called also blanketflower.
