INDIANAPOLIS - The 30th Annual Circle City Classic kicks into high gear Friday with concerts, parties, parades, a step show and a pep rally leading up to the big weekend game.
Event organizers said at least 200,000 college football fans will pack downtown Indianapolis on Saturday to see Grambling State University take on Alcorn State University at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Classic is sponsored by the Indiana Black Expo and the Indiana Sports Corporation.
A free pep rally was scheduled to be held at Monument Circle on Friday afternoon featuring charismatic drum lines and dancers from each school and cheerleaders, event organizers said.
A concert featuring Charlie Wilson, Johnny Gill and Rose Royce was planned to be held at the Indiana Convention Center Friday night, followed by a parade down Meridian Street and football game at Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday morning.
After the game, hundreds of fans were expected to attend various parties and a Greek Step Show at the Madame Walker Theater.
