INDIANAPOLIS -

Citizens Energy Group and Vectren both expect winter gas bills to decline this year compared to last year, assuming normal temperatures.

Citizens said it projects that customers’ gas bills will fall from about $576 for the winter last season to $555 this season.

Vectren said prices for natural gas have been stable and relatively low for three years and that it customers are expected to pay $515 on average over the winter, a 5 percent decrease year-to-year and down about 40 percent since the winter of 2008-2009. That cost is based on an average consumption of 630 therms.

“Given gas costs represent about 60 percent of winter bills, these lower prices are helping keep bill amounts down,” said Brad Ellsworth, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana.

Vectren said consumption was well below normal last season, with the average household using about 510 therms.
