INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett announced the "Your Money Plan" Monday morning in an effort to provide more help to the Carrier workers who will begin losing their jobs next year.

The program offers free financial services and workshops surrounding 401ks and severance packages in partnership with Pete the Planner, a longtime financial guru serving the Indianapolis area.

Ironically enough, Pete installed Carrier products in high school.

"Imagine losing your income, and this doesn't sound like a lot of pressure, but having thousands of dollars potentially come your way through severance. More resources don't always mean you're more resourceful," Pete said at a news conference announcing the program Monday.

"We cannot allow one company's wrong-headed business decisions to negatively impact the long-term financial well-being of an entire community," Mayor Hogsett said.

The announcement was made at Carrier's local union hall.

Job losses are scheduled to begin next year and continue through 2019.
