COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A Columbus woman is accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with her 1-year-old child in the vehicle.

A Columbus police officer responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver around 6:30 Friday night on Marr Road near County Road 450 North.

A caller reported that the driver ran off the road several times and slammed on her brakes in an attempt to get the caller to crash into her.

The caller later said that the suspect stopped her vehicle on Arnold Street and got out of the SUV holding a child.

When the officer located Andrea Rhoades, 43, he said she refused to follow his commands.

According to the officer, she then tried to get back into her SUV and pushed his hand away when he tried to stop her.

A Bartholomew County sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene and carried the child away while her mother continued to struggle with the officer.

Rhoades was taken to the ground and eventually handcuffed.

She refused to submit to a chemical test, so officers got a search warrant for a blood draw at Columbus Regional Hospital.

After the blood test, Rhoades was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana.
