COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus teen who has battled Epilepsy and school bullying is showing others how to turn their challenges into strengths.

Ashleigh Johnson may be an honor roll student, cheerleader and coach, but she had a rocky road at the beginning. As a baby, she suffered from seizures and later on in life, was kneed to the floor by school bullies.

"At that moment, you know I panicked. What’s my daughter's future going to be like? What is she going to be able to do - I mean is she ever going to be able to drive. I cried a lot and prayed a lot,” said Johnson's mother, Shauncee.

Johnson is now enrolled in Hoosier Academy online. It allows her to compete and coach without falling behind in her academics. The online academy allows her to make her own schedule and work at her pace. She tested out of the 8th grade and this fall she will start her sophomore year at 14 years old.
