INDIANAPOLIS – Comcast will not be fined or cited after a cell phone video released in December showed several cars sliding off an icy road to avoid hitting a service truck.
The viral video showed a Comcast worker blocking the westbound lane West Morris Street with just a few orange cones surrounding his truck.
Witnesses said drivers coming over a ridge could not see the truck. When neighbors asked for more cones to be put out, the worker said he only had to place five cones based on the speed limit of the roadway.
The Indiana Department of Labor released a letter Monday stating no citation would be issued for the incident because no Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations apply to the specific situation. The letter also stated that Comcast met the minimum requirements for temporary roadwork.
Comcast was recommended to “Re-evaluate the road and weather conditions on a project by project basis to determine if additional warning devices are necessary to protect employees from approaching traffic. Devices may include additional traffic warning cones and/or signs, flaggers, and warning lights.”
