Community North Hospital was placed on lockdown Wednesday as police investigated a possible robbery in the parking lot.

Emergency dispatchers said initial reports on social media about an active shooter situation were unfounded.

According to Department of Public Safety officials, someone inside the hospital heard a scream and looked outside to see a robbery in progress.

The suspect then ran into a building that leads several places, including the hospital.

No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

The hospital released the following statement Wednesday evening about the incident:

An armed robbery took place at 3:25 p.m. today (Dec. 2, 2015) in the parking lot outside a building, located on the campus of Community Hospital North. Following the robbery, two suspects—one male and one female—fled on foot through a nearby building. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Witnesses promptly notified the Community Health Network security team. Our security officers immediately contacted the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and implemented our standard security protocols, including a campus lockdown.

Community security and IMPD personnel conducted a thorough sweep of North campus buildings, and determined that the suspects had left the premises. The lockdown was lifted at that point and IMPD is continuing to investigate with the assistance of our security personnel.

The safety and security of our patients, families and employees is always a top priority. Our network’s security team continues to maintain a strong presence in the area. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact IMPD at 317-327-3811 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
