INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission reached a decision on a controversial project in Broad Ripple on Wednesday afternoon.
The board approved the variance for the Whole Foods Market project in a 5-2 vote.
The zoning portion will move forward to the full City-County Council.
The project concerned Broad Ripple Village residents who said the project doesn't fit the spirit of the area and may result in losses for existing businesses.
"I would just like to see local business [there]," said resident Dan Sockrider. "I think Broad Ripple is a local village, and I think this big box store in an area which has many local businesses already established has the potential to create net-losses for businesses in the area."
