INDIANAPOLIS -- A company that provided health care services to Indiana prisons plans to lay off nearly 700 employees after losing their contract with the state.

Corizon Health had provided basic health care for prisoners as well as mental health, vision, dental and other services.

The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that the state has awarded a new contract to Wexford Health Sources Inc.

Corizon notified the Indiana Department of Workforce Development earlier this month that they would be laying off 699 employees at 22 locations throughout the state by the end of March. The layoffs are all because of the loss of the Indiana Department of Corrections contract.

The company also said that they expect some of their employees to be hired by the new contractor.
