MADISON COUNTY, Ind. - A Pendleton couple credits their dog after they barely escaped an early morning fire that destroyed their home Wednesday.

Kyle Hart and Jessica Noland said the whines of their bulldog Hugo alerted them that something was wrong.

"We have smoke detectors, but none of them went off. We didn't hear anything, except the dog whining," Noland said.

When Hart got up to take Hugo out, he discovered the flames coming from the first floor.

"It looked like a small fire downstairs, but once we went outside and closed the door, within 10 seconds, it looked like a napalm bomb went off in there. The fire was just everywhere," he said.

The couple said they've lost everything, but they're thankful to be alive.

Firefighters said the cause of the blaze remained under investigation.
