INDIANAPOLIS - The boyfriend of an Indianapolis mother is suspected in the death of her 16-month-old son, prosecutors said.
According to court documents, the baby died from massive head injuries that allegedly took place inside an apartment in the 800 block of Hardin Boulevard on the city's west side.
Sethe Sutliff, 22, faces preliminary charges of murder and neglect. He initially told police that the baby fell twice, but the investigation revealed that the massive head injuries could not have happened after two falls. He later admitted that he threw the baby into a playpen. The baby's mother was at work at the time.
"I just got so frustrated and lost control…I didn't mean to do it," Sutliffe said according to the probable cause affidavit.
Neighbor Jeri Manes remembered the March 28 incident.
"I (saw) the ambulance and fire truck lights. I (saw) them carrying the baby out," Manes said. "I'm glad (Sutliff) is in custody. I believe he should be in jail for a long, long time."
Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Denise Robinson called the incident shocking.
"Any child death is particularly heinous. Children can't defend themselves and expect adults to take care of them," Robinson said.
Sutliff is being held without bond. His next court appearance is Thursday April 3.
