Staton was picked up on preliminary charges of murder and possession of a handgun without a license in the case. Marion County court records show he had previously been charged with criminal confinement, sexual battery, battery and possession of marijuana – although all of those charges were later dismissed.

On Wednesday, Staton pleaded guilty to one count of murder in Marion County Criminal Court 2.
He received a split sentence of 40 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, to be followed by five years with Marion County Community Corrections and another five years on probation. A judge suspended five years of Staton’s sentence. Staton will also receive credit for 394 days already served in jail.
