INDIANAPOLIS -- An armored car company employee is facing felony theft charges for allegedly stealing $75,000-worth of money bags.
On Oct. 26, IMPD officers were called to the Brinks location in the 400 block of Dorman Street on a report of a possible employee theft.
Police were informed that and Indianapolis Armored Car employee, 25-year-old Joseph Hale, had allegedly admitted to taking two money bags containing approximately $75,000 from a delivery intended for PNC Bank.
According to a Brinks employee, who said he confronted Hale about the theft, Hale admitted to taking the money and said he was in a “bad spot” and was just trying to help his family. Hale also reportedly said he would pay the money back from an accident settlement he had coming to him.
The thefts occurred in late September and early October. Police were finally called when Hale failed to show up for work on Oct. 26.
Officers obtained a search warrant for Hale’s apartment and were about to execute it when they were notified that Hale wanted to turn himself in.
He arrived on scene and was taken into custody a short time later.
A search of the apartment did not locate the missing money.
On Wednesday, Hale was formally charged with one count of theft as a level 5 felony. He was released from jail on the same day on a $10,000 surety bond.
