INDIANAPOLIS -- Exactly one year after a murder case was opened against him, Arthur Croom was found guilty Tuesday of reckless homicide in the death of a 61-year-old Indianapolis man.

Croom was charged in August 2016 with murder and aggravated battery in connection with the death of Henry Bennett, 61, that same month. Croom already had several outstanding warrants for his arrest at the time of Bennett’s death, including warrants for possession of cocaine and domestic battery.

On Tuesday, following a two-day trial, a Marion County jury returned a verdict of guilty on a lower charge of reckless homicide in the case.

Reckless homicide is a level 5 felony in Indiana and carries a possible sentence of one-to-six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The sentencing range could potentially be increased due to Croom’s previous criminal history.

A sentencing hearing for Croom was scheduled for Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in Criminal Court 4.
