INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police encountered a man delusional and yelling for help Thursday morning after he apparently had a bad drug reaction.

An IMPD officer was sitting at the intersection of 10th Street and Tibbs Avenue on the west side at 12:24 a.m. Thursday when he heard a man screaming for help.

The officer turned into a nearby alley and saw a man running towards him. Police said the man was covered in dirt, sweating and didn’t have any shoes on.

According to the incident report, the man told police he had just smoked “KD” with a woman and that it was “driving him mad.”

The officer reported that the man was delusional and very excited.

The man eventually sat and began to calm down, but became agitated again when firefighters and medics arrived and have to be handcuffed by police so he could be transported to the hospital.

While it wasn’t immediately clear exactly what substance the man had ingested, if any, “KD” may actually be “Katie” – the street name for the synthetic marijuana K2 or "spice."

Spice most recently made headlines in June, when police blamed a particularly potent combo of heroin and synthetic marijuana for a rash of overdoses in Bloomington.
