INDIANAPOLIS -- A man's death was ruled a homicide following a possible home invasion early Tuesday morning on Indianapolis' west side.

The incident happened around 1 a.m., in the 300 block of N. Mickley Avenue.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called on reports that a person was down inside a house. The 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. He's been identified as 52-year-old James Thornton.

The Marion County Coroner says Thornton died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.

An IMPD spokesperson said there were no signs of damage on the house, so if it was a home invasion, it's possible the suspect knew the victim.

It has been 10 days since the last confirmed homicide in Indianapolis.
