INDIANAPOLIS -- A man suffered life-threatening injuries after leading police on a chase through Johnson County and into Marion County, officials say.

The incident started Tuesday morning when a homeowner spotted a trespasser on their property near E. Main St. in rural Johnson County.

Responding officers saw the man's silver Ford truck on I-65. They tried to pull him over, but he took off, police said.

The vehicle exited I-65 at County Line Road and headed north on Arlington Avenue. As Johnson County deputies were trying to pull him over, the man waved a gun around in the air, Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said.

The vehicle lost control and hit multiple utility poles, snapping at least one of them and causing an explosion.

Police said the truck then continued north through the grass and then onto the roadway before it struck a tree.

The man has life-threatening injuries.

Officers also think he discharged the gun in the pickup truck. They are not sure if his life-threatening injuries are from the crash or from shooting himself. The man was taken to Eskenazi Hospital.
