Man dead, woman wounded in shooting on Indianapolis' northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was and killed and a woman wounded following a shooting Friday night on Indianapolis' northeast side.

The shooting happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the 8100 block of East 37th Place.

Police say they found a man and a woman with numerous gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.  The man has been identified as Kent Edwards, 25, by the Marion County Coroner.

Police say the man was driving a car and the woman was his passenger. He was found inside the car and she was discovered outside. It's not known if they live in the area.

Officers say a vehicle of interest was seen leaving the area with at least two suspects but they are not releasing further specifics at this time. 

The motive for the shootings is not known.
