INDIANAPOLIS -- Lawrence police say they have arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of Gerald Edwards last Christmas Eve.

Edwards, 42, was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in a white Cadillac near 75th Street and Carroll Road on Dec. 24, 2016.

A passenger in the car, Bryan Williams, 45, told police that he and Edwards had been traveling back from a family gathering in Hamilton County when they were confronted by a group of men in a truck in a road rage incident.

Williams told police that he and Edwards fought the men, and that Edwards must have been stabbed during the altercation.

Edwards ultimately died of his injuries. Williams denied having a knife.

According to police, investigators eventually discovered evidence of a physical altercation near State Roads 32 and 38 in Noblesville.

Eyewitnesses had called 911 reporting they observed two males in a white Cadillac fighting at that intersection.

An analysis of evidence recovered at the scene indicated the presence of Edwards’ and Williams’ DNA on a folding pocketknife discovered nearby.

Williams was arrested on Tuesday and charged with a preliminary count of murder.

He was being held at the Marion County Jail without bond awaiting formal charges.
