ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Police arrested Zionsville Town Council President Elizabeth Hopper Monday afternoon on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Boone County Court, a Zionsville police officer sitting on Hunt Club Road around 5:30 p.m. Monday witnessed a silver Subaru driver over the sidewalk and curb while turning westbound from Ford Road.
The officer reported that the vehicle then stopped in the right turn lane for Stone Wall Lane and turned on its hazard lights.
According to the affidavit, when the officer approached to check on the vehicle and its driver – later identified as Hopper – the odor of alcoholic beverages was detectable.
Hopper allegedly also had the heat on “full blast,” although it was approximately 90 degrees outside.
According to the affidavit, Hopper presented with slurred speech and glassy eyes.
The officer then asked Hooper to perform a field sobriety test, which she reportedly failed. According to the affidavit, a portable breathalyzer registered Hopper at a .19 BAC – more than twice the legal limit. A certified breath test performed at the Zionsville Police Department later registered her BAC at .221.
Hopper was then placed under arrest and transported to the Boone County Jail on a preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and public intoxication.
