CUMBERLAND, Ind. – A 100-year-old landmark in the town of Cumberland is at risk of being demolished.

The St. John United Church of Christ building sits at the corner of German Church Road and Washington Street and was set to be developed into senior housing. Federal housing tax credits were delayed, causing the project to halt.

Those who operate the building said $75,000 is needed by May 4 or the building will be demolished June 1. Indiana Landmarks pledged to donate $25,000 and private donors committed another $12,000.

Supporters of the church interested in helping owners of the building maintain the structure can find more information here.
