HENRY COUNTY, Ind. -- Firefighters from all over Henry County are teaming up with the Red Cross to launch a new home fire safety campaign.

The idea is to install smoke detectors in homes throughout the county.

It comes in the wake of a deadly fire last week that claimed the life of Michael Dale,52, and his 4-year-old granddaughter Jenna.

One of the firefighters who tried to save them reached out to the Red Cross to see how they could prevent other families from losing loved ones.

"If we can get a smoke detector in on house and save one life then it's worth it.... my fire department is all for it we will assist them in any way we can. Red Cross will be the leading thing of this but we will be assisting them and passing them out,” said Jimmy Raines, Liberty Township Fire Chief.

Firefighters say the cause of the deadly fire is still under investigation.

They hope to launch the campaign to give out smoke detectors in the next few weeks.
