Delphi, Indiana: Despite rumors, ISP says no arrest has been made in murders of two girls

DELPHI, Ind. – Have you seen a post spreading on Facebook claiming a Kokomo man has been arrested for the murder of two slain Delphi teens? Sgt. Tony Slocum with Indiana State Police says no such arrest has been made in connection with the deaths of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.

More than 10,000 tips have come in regarding the deaths of Williams and German, but ISP continues to wrestle with people playing detective and spreading false narratives about developments in the case.

In a statement released Tuesday, Sgt. Slocum asked that no one jump to conclusions, nor "identify a person as a suspect without facts to back up the claims."

There has been no arrest for the murders of Liberty German, 14 and Abigail Williams, 13. As the case proceeds investigators will talk to potential witnesses and suspects, and anyone they believe might have evidentiary information about the case.

If the public observes officers working on this case, they are asked not to jump to conclusions, nor identify a person as a suspect without facts to back up the claims. It is not fair to that person.

If the public has information about a suspect (s), in the double homicide of Liberty German and Abigail Williams, they should call the Delphi Murder Tip Line toll free at 844-459-5786 or email - ISP statement released Feb. 28

German, 14,  and Williams, 13,  went missing two weeks ago after being dropped off to go hiking near the Monon High Bridge. The girls’ bodies were found the next day by volunteers who had been scouring the area.

This is not the first time Indiana State Police have had to shoot down rumors about an arrest in the murders, dealing with other false information and the spread of "suspect sketches" that were not verified by ISP.

ISP said sharing information on social media may cause confusion or lead to someone being falsely accused, and ask that anyone with a tip contact the tip line directly at 1-800-225-5324 (800-CALL FBI) or email tips to Abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com

As of Tuesday, the reward for information leading to an arrest of a suspect was more than $100,000.
