SELLERSBURG, Ind. - A Clark County deputy and an Indiana State Police K-9 were shot during a standoff in Sellersburg, Ind. on Monday afternoon, killing the dog and injuring the deputy.
Officials said the standoff ended and the suspect was taken into custody later Monday evening, ABC affiliate WHAS reported.
The officer was in stable condition and did not suffer life-threatening injuries. He was alert and talking when he arrived to the hospital.
Police said the situation started with a call to the police when the suspect's wife called to get help for his mental issues, WHAS said.
The suspect had his two children with him, but released them before kicking in the door of a home.
Police said the suspect lived in the area, but not at the home where the standoff took place.
