INDIANAPOLIS - A John Gregg-Vi Simpson news conference on the economy degenerated into the giggles Wednesday when an attempt to define small business was sidetracked by a double entendre that left both Democratic candidates and reporters laughing.

Simpson was attempting to answer a question on how she would define a small business for purposes of granting state assistance as lieutenant governor.

Both candidates agreed that helping small business is a good idea. That's when the jokes began.

"Bigger's not always better. I know that," Gregg said, prompting Simpson to reply, "Don't go there. Size matters? Are you going there at all?"

As the room began to giggle, Simpson paused to compose herself and then referred to her prepared notes.

"OK, thank you. I have it. I have it in my notes. Size matters on contracts, but I decided not to do it," she said, trying not to laugh.

"And with that said, this month celebrates my eighth year free from prostate cancer, so thank you" Gregg added, laughing.

"Congratulations," Simpson said.

The two candidates, having recovered sufficiently, wrapped up the news conference with Gregg asking reporters, "Do you have this much fun at a Pence and Ellspermann event?"
