Top things to do in Indy this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS -- Downtown is the place to be this weekend as several festivals and gatherings are planned. Following is six things to do in downtown Indy this weekend.

 

Get ready to dig in

More than 40 chefs will come together to treat foodies to some of their Indiana signature items as part of Dig IN: A Taste of Indiana. Attendees will be able to sample items from every chef and taste beverages from dozens of Indiana's wineries and breweries. This farm-to-fork festival will take place Aug. 26 from noon to 4 p.m. in Military park and tickets are still available.

Experience the lights

If you're a fan of the mini light show occasionally displayed on the IPL building, then you're going to love this dazzling show Aug 26 and 27. Experience the Indianapolis Light Festival, a world class, interactive light festival in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Central Indiana Community Foundation. This free event held on the Downtown Indy Canal Walk, will feature artists and performers from Indianapolis and beyond. The show will begin at 8:52 p.m. both dates and run until 1:02 a.m.

Eat your way through downtown

Ever wanted to eat at a more expensive restaurant like Harry & Izzy's or Morton's Steakhouse but wasn't ready to fork over the cash? Devour Downtown Summerfest has solved your problems. More than 90 restaurants in the downtown area are offering discounted meals now through Sept.  4. What are you waiting for? It's time to devour!

Visit the street of dreams

The Madame Walker Theatre Center is giving a free gift to the community - food trucks to enjoy, live music and art during the Street of Dreams Music Fest Aug. 26. From 5-10 p.m. the theater's parking lot will be filled with local vendors, bands and activities for kids. Featured artists include: Alaina Renae, Alex Hall, Theon Lee, Makeda Grier, Izzy A'more and many more.

Two days of wine

Sip your way through two-days of wine offerings at the Indianapolis Wine Festival Aug. 26 and 27. Held at the American Legion Mall from 5-10 p.m., this event will boast more than 250 wines from all around the world. The festival will also feature local cuisine, live music, wine expert-led seminars and more.

Walk for a cause

The American Diabetes Association will hold their signature fundraising walk, Step Out Aug 27 at White River State Park in Celebration Plaza. This annual event attracts thousands of walkers and runners looking to compete in the 5K race. The event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and ticket prices vary depending upon registration choice.
