Driver critically injured in single-car crash on NE side

Police: Passenger not seriously injured

INDIANAPOLIS - Police were investigating a single-vehicle accident on the city’s northeast side late Thursday evening.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. near 25th and Dearborn streets, between Keystone Avenue and Sherman Drive, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Police said the car hit a tree and burst into flames.

The driver of the car was trapped in the wreck and was reported to be in critical condition. The passenger in the vehicle did not suffer life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Officials said the car was traveling fast on Dearborn Street when it hit the tree. Police were investigating if alcohol played a factor in the crash.
