KOKOMO, Ind. -- A truck driver was hit and killed when he stepped out of his vehicle Wednesday night.
Now some are calling for a sign to be added where he died.
The incident happened near the Chrysler Kokomo Transmission Plant on Home Avenue.
A local business owner, who travels the road multiple times a day, says the driver never would have parked his truck in the middle of the road and climbed out if Chrysler had a sign up giving truck drivers more direction.
In order to enter the Chrysler plant property, drivers have to drive up a chute to the right of the road.

While the crash remains under investigation, Chris Sutton of Sutton's Truck and Auto Repair said he has learned the man hit and killed meant to drive up that chute, but missed it and got out to ask for directions.
"Any out of towner, there's no way they're not going to miss it, it happens every day. And Chrysler, you know, the local plant, has been talking about implementing a procedure for approximately two years now to accommodate these trucks better. Hopefully that will get in motion now," Sutton said.
The lack of signage is not necessarily what caused this tragedy. But Sutton said if it were there, it could have prevented it.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles released the following statement about the incident:
“FCA US would like to express its condolences to the family of the driver killed last night near the Kokomo Transmission Plant. While the Kokomo Police are still investigating, this appears to be a tragic, isolated incident and we can’t comment any further on the circumstances surrounding it.”
