NEW HAVEN, Ind. - Beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, East Allen County Schools says it will be the first district in Indiana to allow homeschooled athletes to participate on all IHSAA athletic teams.
The policy change comes after an April IHSAA decision which allowed homeschooled athletes who met certain criteria to play for public schools.
"East Allen County Schools is proud to be the pioneer in this arena of accepting homeschooled athletes," said Dr. Ken Folks, East Allen superintendent, in a press release.
Homeschooled athletes will still have to meet criteria set forth by the IHSAA, including completing any statewide examinations mandated by the Indiana Dept. of Education.
