INDIANAPOLIS - One person was hospitalized after an incident at a chemical plant on the city’s southwest side Wednesday evening.
Wayne Township Haz-Mat crews were called to Vertellus Specialties in the 1500 block of South Tibbs Avenue around 6 p.m.
Officials said they were able to trace the spill back to a 10,000-gallon tank with residual Benzene that had cracked. Crews were able to contain the leak on-site.
One employee was exposed to the vapors from the cracked Benzene tank. The employee was conscious and alert, but was taken to Eskenazi Health for evaluation, officials said.
There was no exposure outside the plant, but Wayne Township officials said they would continue to monitor the area to make sure there was no threat to the public.
