MARTINSVILLE, Ind. - A former corrections officer at the Morgan County Jail is accused of assaulting a female inmate and offering others special treatment if they let him see them nude or had sex with each other.
Nicholas Tankersley, 21, who worked the overnight shift at the jail, has been charged with sexual battery, theft, official misconduct and battery.
Police began investigating after an inmate reported that Tankersley had come into her cell and grabbed her breast while she lay on her bunk.
A dozen more inmates told investigators that Tankersley offered them "special favors," including markers, batteries, extra sheets, oranges and pens, if they would stand naked in front of him.
"(If you) show your breasts to Tankersley, you get stuff," several inmates told investigators, according to the affidavit.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Tankersley also ordered two inmates to perform a "sex show" for him, and asked inmates for sexual favors when they were released.
When Tankersley was interviewed by police this week, he admitted that the inmates had showed him their breasts "too many times to count," and acknowledged most of the inmates' accusations were true, according to the affidavit.
Tankersley has been fired from the jail. He pleaded not guilty at an initial hearing Thursday and asked for a public defender.
Tankersley is being held at the Johnson County Jail.
