INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis family celebrated more than America’s birthday on Tuesday, they also celebrated the birthdays of three generations of family members all born on the same day.

The tradition started with 93-year-old Herman, born in 1923 – then his daughter Julie born in 1956. Julie’s 18-year-old son Jake was born in 1999.

“He was actually past his due date,” said Julie. “I remember thinking on July 3rd, ‘oh no I hope he is not born today because tomorrow would be really cool.’”

Jake may have been the last to continue the tradition, but family members said he has a lot to live up to.

“If my son can just manage to have a child on the Fourth of July then we might tie it,” said Julie.

The family said having four people born on the Fourth of July would keep the tradition alive.
