INDIANAPOLIS - A man, his wife and two children escaped a fire that sparked in their Wayne Township home early Tuesday, firefighters said.
Just before 1 a.m., Wayne Township Firefighters were called to a home in the 6900 block of Westlake Drive on reports of a fire alarm. Meanwhile, the homeowner's security alarm company called to alert him about a smoke detector going off in his garage.
When the homeowner went to downstairs to check the alarm, he found smoke and fire coming from the garage.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they were able to douse the flames in about 15 minutes.
No injuries were reported, but crews estimated the fire caused $40,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
