INDIANAPOLIS - An Indy family's home sustained serious damage after a fire – though their pet dog and rooster made it out unscathed.
Firefighters responded to flames at a residence on the 1800 block of East Sumner Avenue just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Crews were initially told residents might be inside, but a thorough search revealed no one was home, save for the family dog, and black Labrador named Mo, and a rooster.
Homeowners were contacted and found to be out of town for the holidays. Neighbors stepped up to take care of the animals until the family returns.
IFD estimated the damage at $25,000. A cause for the fire has not been determined.
