INDIANAPOLIS - The Minton Capehart Federal Building was evacuated Monday afternoon while police investigated a suspicious package.
The package was later determined to contain consumer-grade fireworks, police said.
Metro police told RTV6 the package was seen with the X-ray machine as a woman was going through security.
The woman, later identified as Christine Dennison, told officials what was in the package and was detained for further questioning.
The building, at 575 N. Pennsylvania St., houses offices for the Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration and the Department of Homeland Security, among others.
A day care on the first floor of the building was also evacuated, and the children were taken to Harrison College, officials said.
Pennsylvania Street was closed from St. Claire to Vermont, and North Street was closed from Alabama to Meridian.
