INDIANAPOLIS -- Firefighters say squatters – or possibly intrepid ghost hunters – may have led to a fire that broke out Tuesday morning at the abandoned Central State Hospital.

The fire was contained to the old power plant building. The building is one of the remaining structures from what was formerly Central State Hospital on West Washington Street – originally opened in the 1800s as the Central State Hospital for the Insane.

Indianapolis firefighters were quickly able to get flames under control. They say squatters and ghost hunters interested in rumors of paranormal activity at the facility have been problems in the past.

The fire comes one day after RTV6 published a story with a former paranormal investigator about her team's expedition into Central State.

We're pretty sure that's a coincidence.
