INDIANAPOLIS - Fire officials determined the cause of a fire at a business on the city's near-north side early Wednesday to be arson, investigators said.
Just before 4:30 a.m., Indianapolis Fire Department crews were called to 38th Street and Keystone Avenue on reports of a fire inside a building that houses three businesses, including the Custom Collision Body Shop.
Crews worked for more than an hour to gain control of the fire and put out hot spots. Dispatchers said gas and oil on the shop's floor created dangerous conditions for firefighters.
Arson investigators said the fire was intentionally set and that a Molotov cocktail device was found near the scene.
IFD crews shut down 38th Street from Keystone and Baltimore avenues during the morning rush hour commute.
Arson investigators estimated at least $150,000 in damages.
