INDIANAPOLIS - Observant neighbors and quick-thinking firefighters are credited with saving a dog trapped in a burning home Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a residential alarm at 1940 Herford Drive, near 21st Street and Cumberland Drive, just after 10 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames.

Neighbors alerted crews that a 3-year-old boxer named Sascha was trapped inside the home.

Firefighters found the dog in the basement and were able to bring her to safety. She was scared but uninjured.

The homeowner and her two children were not at home at the time of the fire.

The home sustained at least $350,000 worth of damage.
