FISHERS, Ind. – Indianapolis and Fishers police officers said more than 90 car break-ins have occurred within the past week.

Several of the cars broken into were those parked along the street with unlocked doors.

Police said the suspect who broke into a vehicle Friday morning in Fishers took the items stolen to a secluded area to sort through the items they wanted.

Many of the items were later found scattered around the neighborhood.

Police believe people in the area can prevent this type of crime by using the following safety tips.

  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, including firearms
  • Always make sure your vehicle’s doors are locked
  • If possible, park in a garage and avoid parking on the street
  • Install and use a car alarm system
  • Don’t leave spare keys attached to the outside or hidden inside your vehicle
  • Park in open, populated and well-lit areas
  • Avoid parking near trucks, vans, dumpsters or other objects that limit visibility and provide hiding places
  • When making a quick stop at a store or even when in your driveway, turn off the engine, roll up your windows, lock all doors and take your keys with you

If you have any information on the vehicle break-ins, call (317) 595-3300.
