FISHERS, Ind. - The town of Fishers will become a city on Jan. 1, 2015 and dates have been set for the first mayoral election.
Fishers will elect its first city mayor, city council members and city clerk during the 2014 general election year.
Candidates for the positions within the city offices will be nominated at the primary election in May of 2014.
“The new dates, according to the recently amended Indiana Code, give us a roadmap to follow in the transition to become a city,” said Fishers Town Council President John Weingardt. “In the next few months, Fishers residents can expect the town to actively communicate every step we will take before Jan. 1, 2015.”
An Indiana Code requires Fishers to redistrict the town into six legislative districts that contain equal population.
