A former Edgewood police officer was sentenced to 11 years for his role in a deadly crash in April 2014.

James Foutch was sentenced to eight years in prison and three years of probation Thursday, according to Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings.

In April 2014, Foutch crashed into a Buick on State Road 32 east of Lapel. Jesse Sperry, 23, died in the crash. His wife, Rebecca Sperry, was seriously injured. She was nine months pregnant at the time of the crash. The baby girl was delivered via C-section.

The crash data recorder recovered from Foutch's GMC Yukon showed that it had been traveling 92 miles per hour just prior to the crash and indicated no braking had occurred.
