GREENWOOD, Ind. – Former Indiana Fever player Katie Douglas opened a fitness studio in Greenwood.

In the past, Douglas was a Big 10 standout at Purdue and star player at Perry Meridian High School, but during her retirement she said she wanted to give back to her hometown.

She opened an Orangetheory Fitness franchise on Smith Valley Road about a month ago and the studio already has over 600 members.

At Orangetheory locations, guests wear heart rate monitors as they complete interval training in groups during 60-minute classes.

"You know I think a lot of people think, ‘wow you’ve settled and decided on Indianapolis’ - I didn’t settle,” said Douglas, who first tried Orangetheory in Florida after an injury.

“I looked into it, took a couple of classes and literally after the first class I was like 'man this is an awesome workout,'” she said.

The Indy area also has an Orangetheory on East 86th Street as well as in Carmel. Eric Richards said he tried his first class in Carmel but can often be found at the Greenwood location.

“I’ve always kind of said ‘hey, if something comes down to the south side Greenwood or further south, I’m all over it,’” said Richards.

Douglas said her plan is to open a second location in downtown Indy.
