WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A former Purdue University football player is back in jail for violating a house arrest sentence after less than a month, police said.

Former linebacker Dwayne Beckford, 21, of New Jersey, was arrested Monday afternoon, police said.

The Tippecanoe County Community Corrections Department said that Beckford admitted to using marijuana and bringing in someone else’s urine to pass a drug test.

In December, Beckford pleaded guilty in Tippecanoe Superior Courts 4 and 6 to possessing drug paraphernalia and synthetic drugs and to violating probation in three prior criminal cases.

Beckford was sentenced to a combination of house arrest through community corrections and supervised probation.

The December arrest was Beckford’s fourth arrest in 14 months.

That arrest prompted Purdue football coach Danny Hope to drop him from the team.

Beckford is expected to appear before a Tippecanoe County judge later in the week.
