LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. - A former school clerk-treasurer will spend time in prison after admitting to stealing more than $100,000 from taxpayers.

A Lawrence County judge sentenced Kathy Kirk today to two years in state prison, but due to credits, she will likely serve only a year.

While serving as the Mitchell Community School Treasurer, Kirk used taxpayer money to pay her bills, tuition for her child, and even buy jewelry.

When the Call 6 Investigators asked Kirk why she did it, Kirk had no explanation other than to apologize for her actions.

Kirk pleaded guilty to forgery, theft, and corrupt  business influence.
