FORTVILLE, Ind. – For the second time within a month, a Fortville teacher has saved the life of a student with the Heimlich Maneuver.
Officials with Fortville Elementary said Micah Tsamwa began choking on a piece of pizza Thursday at the end of the school’s field day.
Once Tsamwa started choking, he ran up to fifth grade teacher Niki Privett for help.
“Micah Tsamwa was choking on a piece of pizza and ran toward me. I was standing at the door of my class,” said Privett. “I spun him around, flipped his arms up and did the Heimlich. He then began coughing and calmed down afterward."

The student’s mother was notified about the incident and praised Privett for her efforts.
“I received a call before the end of school and they told me the story,” said Samantha Hannah. “I am so grateful to Mrs. Privett for saving his life! Micah was still a little shaken up so she walked him to the student pick-up line."
The first choking incident happened in late April.
